The start of the secondary glazing business

More than 37 years ago Derrick John Smith founded City Sound, at a time when secondary glazing was virtually unknown – despite the growing problem of old Victorian sash windows in London buildings. Although beautiful, these sash windows were often poorly fitting and allowed into homes and workplaces all the noise, draughts and dirt of a growing city. But because most of the buildings in central London are listed, the thought of changing the windows for the then popular double glazing was not an option. And rightly so – could you imagine what London would look like today if everyone had installed double glazing to their own design…?

This is what prompted Derrick to start up his own secondary glazing company, and it’s true to say that he has never looked back. Over the years we have worked with many different products on a wide range of buildings, and from our vast experience and customer feedback, we can find the perfect match for your existing windows. And remember – City Sound secondary glazing is installed internally and once fitted is hardly visible.
